Programs

3 to 4 years old - Little Learners Lane

 

We teach a structured, routined program in the form of games, activities, and song to this group.  This will be done in monthly project theme chose by the children, which will have areas of teaching in letters, numbers, science and nature, art, as well as dance and movement.  There will be 3 educators in this room, giving both group and individual learning. 

 

Science and nature will cover an array of areas such as - our community, the environment, countries around the world, animals, the body, health and hygiene, and having a general knowledge of the world and cultures.

Art will cover areas such as - free drawing, looking at different aspects of art including collage, shapes, self-art which can entail hands, feet, and colours which include primary and mixing colours.

Number will cover areas of concepts 1- 10, sight recognition of numbers, learning through play, number games, art, and singing.  a repetition of numbers is used everyday in the 'morning circle' by doing the day of the week, months of the year, and looking at a daily calendar.

Letters will cover areas such as - alphabet recongition, learning letters through play, games, and songs. 

Dance and movement will cover areas such as - different types of music, song and dance activities, have access to a range of topics and resources.  There will be a song book available for parents to take a copy of the songs learnt home, to sing with your child.

 

If a child shows a further interest in learning more particularly in letters and numbers, then Jolly Phonics a phonetic based program will be introduced.  There will also be swimming lessons available, a date to be decided on.  Lastly, there will be small laptops with Reading Eggs and Mathletics available to each child, as well as an interactive smart board with educational programs available.

​5 to school age - Big Learners Boulevard

We teach a structured, routined program in this group in the form of Literacy, Numeracy, Art, Science and Nature, and Dance and Movement, which is done through a monthly project chose by the children.

 

Science and nature will cover the following areas - our community and others around the world, the environment, countries and their cultures around the world, animals, the body, health and hygiene, and a general knowledge of the world around us.

Art will cover the following areas - the children will learn free drawing, looking at different aspects of art to include, collage, shapes, self art, primary and mixing colours.

Numeracy will  cover the following areas - the concept of numbers 1-10 or more, learning sight recognition of numbers, correct formation and sequence of numbers.  Numbers will also be taught through games, play and art.  There is also a repetition of numbers each day in the 'morning circle', by doing the days of the week, months of the year, and looking at a daily calendar.

Literacy will cover the following areas - letter writing, alphabet recognition and formation in readiness for school.  Jolly Phonics will be introduced, this is a phonetic based program which teaches sounds, as well as upper and lower case letters.  This program helps with the sounding out of letters to eventually spell a word - e.g. s-a-t sat, p-i-n pin.  There will also be a 'sound table', when the children start a new letter they can bring something small from home beginning with that sound - e.g. 's' spoon, 't' toy.  There will also be learning through play, games, and songs.

Music and movement will cover the following areas - an array of different music genres, song and dance activities, having access to a range of topics and interests.  There will be a song book in the room, for parents to take copies of songs learnt and sing them at home with your child.

 

The daily schedule for the preschool is as follows:-

8.00am to 8.45am                 Arrival and free play

8.45am to 9.30am                 Wash hands and Circle Time

9.30am to 10.15am               First Session

10.15am to 10.45am             Wash hands and fruit break

10.45am to 11.30am             Second Session

11.30am to 12.30pm             Free play

12.30pm to 1.00pm               Wash hands and lunch time

1.00pm to 1.45pm                 Wash hands and Quiet Time

1.45pm to 2.15pm                 Story Time

2.15pm to 3.00pm                 Arts, crafts or dance and movement

3.00pm to 3.30pm                 Wash hands and veggie break

3.30pm to 4.45pm                 Free Play

4.45pm to 5.00pm                 Tidy up and home time - all children before they leave is to tidy away one item!

 

This is a general schedule for each day, of course depending on the monthly themed project, visits, birthdays or any other celebrations the schedule will change for felxibility.
